Introduction to the California Sages (Genus Salvia)
Come and smell the sages! In California, there are 19 species of Salvia (sage) that make up a wonderfully fragrant portion of our native flora. These species are notable members of our native plant communities including coastal sage scrub, chaparral, forests, and deserts. In this hands-on class, we will learn all about California Salvia diversity, ecology, and field identification. We will have plenty of time to walk around the garden to examine and, of course, smell the sages around us!
Please Note: This is a beginner to intermediate class that includes a mix of classroom time and a 1-hour moderate walk around the Garden. We welcome people of any physical ability. Let us know if you would like a cart ride during this portion of the class.
