Introduction to Keying Plants

Plant keys are what botanists use to identify plants to species or subspecies. Using keys can be tricky, confusing, and frustrating, even for the most experienced botanist! This class aims to demystify the process of keying, giving an introduction to some of the plant terminology used and how to identify major plant families in California. We will also get lots of hands-on practice using keys on a variety of plant groups. We hope you will come away from this class seeing plants in a new lens!

Please Note: This class includes a mix of classroom time and time walking the Garden paths. We welcome people of any physical ability. Let us know if you would like a cart ride during this portion of the class. Please wear comfortable shoes, bring water, and dress for the weather.

Also, lunch is not provided, but we will break midday and participants are welcome to bring a bag lunch.

Space is limited so sign up today!
