Scientific illustration is an age-old practice that is used in a wide array of scientific fields. But what makes it so useful for botany, even today in a time of cameras and photography? Learn about this meditative but practical approach to drawing from Lilly Marinelli, a botanical illustrator, teacher, and recent CalBG Botanical Illustration intern. In this class she will introduce you to the types of projects that botanical illustrators work on, teach you the basic skills of sketching and drawing in order to call attention to important features of a plant, then assist you in putting together a plant illustration sheet similar to those found in scientific publications. You will leave the class with your own unique piece of scientific art, featuring a plant of your choice.
