With February being Bird Month at CalBG, what better way to experience the Garden than with a bird themed visit?! Try your hand at solving the riddles and finding the answers posted along the Mesa Loop Trail. Spend some time at our various observation stations and enjoy the act of birdwatching! Don’t forget to see how many bird friendly plants you can spy! Grab a copy of the scavenger hunt at the Admissions Kiosk (limited copies will be available) or download and print out a copy below to bring along on your next visit to the Garden.
Bird Month Photo Contest

All Month!
Share the beautiful array of birds at our Garden through your lens! From February 2 through February 28, we invite photographers and photo-takers of all ages to capture their favorite moments from bird watching at the Garden. All submissions must be emailed to photocontest@calbg.org with full name and phone number to be eligible for the contest. Be sure to share your photos on Instagram and Facebook using #BirdsOfCalBG and tag us so we can share your photos on our social media accounts! Click below to find out more about the contest details.
iNaturalist Bird Contest

All Month!
How many bird species can you document at California Botanic Garden this February? Take part in our iNaturalist bird contest for the chance to win a bird themed prize and some CalBG swag! The person who documents the most on iNaturalist during this time will be our winner! Simply record photos and/or sounds of birds from February 2 - 28 and submit as observations through the iNaturalist website or through the iNaturalist app. Click below to find out more about the contest details.
Great Backyard Bird Count

Feb 12 - 15
Take part in a global event by participating in this year’s Great Backyard Bird Count from February 12 - 15! Come to the Garden for a visit to watch, count, and celebrate birds! Become a citizen scientist by submitting your data to eBird and contribute to the work of scientists and their conservation efforts. To find out more about how to participate, go to birdcount.org.
Introduction to Birding
Feb 13, 1-2pm
Dive into the wonderful world of birding as you learn the basics of getting to know the birds around you. Join us virtually on Saturday, February 13th at 1pm as Tina Stoner, President of Pomona Valley Audubon Society, walks you through how to use the tools of the trade (binoculars and field guides), keeping records, and how to identify birds by using the four fundamentals of birding.
Habitat Gardening for Birds and Other Pollinators

Feb 27, 11am-12pm
The connection between California native plants and local wildlife is both fascinatingly beautiful and extremely important. Learn how to shape your garden into a habitat that is enticing to birds and other pollinators with Chip Grubbs, Horticulturist at CalBG. Join us virtually on Saturday, February 27 at 11am as we focus on the care requirements for various native trees, shrubs, and wildflowers that attract and support different types of birds.
